Over the next several months, just in time for the San Diego tourism season, the website's creative team will be busy visiting local dining spots and hotels with their specialized optical equipment. Each venue receives a page on the site with an overview description, along with the virtual tour.

"Children are so computer savvy that we knew creating a Web-based vehicle would be an excellent way to reach them with fun information about their dental care," said John Kokai, DDS, vice president for PAGD, who championed the project.

An entertaining attraction of the KidzGrinz site is a cast of custom created dental cartoon characters designed to entertain children and allow them to learn at the same time. The characters include "Suds," a toothbrush; "Strings," a box of floss; "Squeeze," a toothpaste tube; and "Turbo," a battery-powered toothbrush superhero.

The website features six unique sections. "Suds and Friends" teaches kids good oral hygiene habits, "Peek Inside" allows kids to learn about their mouth's anatomy, "Munchies" addresses good eating habits, "Brace Yourself" helps children understand why they may need this common treatment, "Goggles, Gloves and Gowns" gives a child-guided tour that takes the mystery out of visiting a dentist, and "What's Up Doc" allows kids, parents and teachers to e-mail dentists at the national Academy of General Dentistry to have any dental question answered!
