The Teaching Heritage site (http://www.thirteen.org/edonline/teachingheritage/) demonstrates how to use both the technology and the historical wealth of the Heritage: Civilization And The Jews DVD-ROM a remarkable resource that traces the history of the Jewish people from biblical times to the present. In addition to the award-winning nine-hour documentary series hosted by the late Abba Eban, the DVD-ROM contains an interactive historical atlas, a timeline of Jewish and general history, 100 original multimedia presentations, an anthology of historical documents from every period of Jewish history, and more than 3,000 articles from the Encyclopedia Judaica. Teaching Heritage helps teachers use the HERITAGE DVD-ROM to bring the enduring drama of the Jewish story to life in a form more compelling and illuminating than ever before possible. Heritage is a virtual Jewish history library in a box, explains Brigitte Magar Matsuoka, director of educational technologies for Thirteen. Many teachers who own the DVD-ROM find that it is not only an excellent source of data and images, but so much more. The Teaching Heritage Web site can help educators create whole units that take students on a voyage of discovery through time. The Teaching Heritage Web site provides a free professional development workshop that shows educators how to use DVD-ROM technology effectively in the classroom. In addition to DVD-ROM basics, teachers will learn how to integrate resources from a DVD-ROM into powerful multimedia presentations for the classroom. Educators will also find expert-developed, standards-based lesson plans that provide unique pathways for learning with the Heritage DVD-ROM. The Teaching Heritage Web site is a production of the Thirteen Educational Technologies Department, a leading provider of innovative programming, online education, and professional development for educators and producer of Ed Online, Thirteens online resource for educators, parents and students. Sandy Goldberg is the producer of the site. Brigitte Magar Matsuoka is executive producer of the site. Carmen Di Rienzo is Thirteens vice president and managing director, Corporate Affairs. The Heritage: Civilization And The Jews DVD-ROM boxed set is a production of the Kravis Multimedia Education Center at Thirteen/WNET New York. Executive producer and editor-in-chief is John G.
