W3-design Re-vamps Kaiser Permanente Site. W3-design, based in Hollywood and New York City, has re-launched the Kaiser Permanente California site. W3 has developed Web-based communities for the 1997 Academy Awards, AST Computer, The Hollywood Reporter, Infiniti, KCRW/National Public Radio, and Paramount Pictures (including "Mission: Impossible," one of the most heavily-trafficked movie promotional sites ever, among others). The re-vamped Kaiser Permanente California site offers everything from wellness information to membership updates to health-conscious recipes. A coordinated effort of California Kaiser Permanente and the L.A. offices of W3-design, Inc., the new site offers news-you-can-use health information for both Kaiser Permanente members and non-members, including a health tip of the day, employment opportunities and a quarterly Webzine called Partners in Health, which focuses on a variety of health-related issues including sports and fitness, food and nutrition and how to deal with cold and flu season. What makes California Kaiser Permanente's revamped site particularly compelling is the degree to which users can interact with the healthcare organization through the Internet, according to Jacqueline De Angelis, new media technology director for Kaiser Permanente in Southern California. Kaiser
Permanente's five million members will soon be able to receive real-time
customer service through the Web site, including requesting brochures,
receiving replacement membership cards and inquiring about benefits information.
Future enhancements will include RealAudio tapes and scripts on health
information, which will enable members to draw on the expertise of top
health care professionals, De Angelis said.
