seeMOMMYrun.com
is a free site that helps busy women find baby-friendly running or walking
groups convenient to their personal geographic needs, time constraints,
and fitness abilities.
|
seeMOMMYrun
started in 2004 in the D.C. metro area, created by Andrea Vincent, an avid
runner who ran with her husband before work through her eighth month of
pregnancy. After giving birth, Vincent wanted to continue running,
but she was new to the area. "I really wanted to find other moms
to run with, but I didn't know a single mom in the area...Being a new mom
is very isolating."
This led to her. A week after
giving birth, Vincent launched http://www.seeMOMMYrun.com,
which allows new moms to form their own running groups with other moms
based on location and what days of the week they can run.
The site has grown rapidly and
now has over 800 members throughout Virginia, Maryland and D.C., and hundreds
more members across the country.
"I get e-mails from people all
over the country asking to start up groups in their states," says Vincent.
"I just thought I'd meet a few people. I had no idea it would be this big."
She then launched sites in Florida and Texas and has expanded to California,
Arizona, Georgia, Colorado, Washington and Oregon.
Each group receives its own
message board, e-mail and calendar so users can post events. The site also
offers tips, articles, and merchandise.
