On the road again . . .
The Victory Garden has a tradition
of providing access to some of the most innovative gardens of the world.
This season, we travel across North America, visiting beautiful landscapes
in both the United States and Canada, all while sharing practical advice
everyone can use at home.
And we’re growing too . . .
From Maine to Mississippi, every
gardener is confronted by slightly different challenges. We’ve uncovered
an exciting opportunity to explore the issues that affect gardeners in
warmer weather zones, so we are taking an extended visit to Callaway Gardens,
our Victory Garden South. We’ll be spending the beginning of our season
in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Pine Mountain, Georgia
at Callaway Gardens, an award-winning setting perfect for unearthing new
tips and ideas for the warmer regions of the country.
This season, we’ll also be growing
roots with The New England Wild Flower Society’s Garden in the Woods. Many
homeowners want to know how to adopt earth-friendly gardening practices
andThe Victory Garden will present fresh, ecologically focused gardening
stories on topics ranging from wildlife gardening and birding to low-water
requirements and shade gardening.
How does your garden grow?
The Victory Garden knows that all
gardeners have their own vision and goals, and our objective is to offer
a wide variety of ideas to assist and inspire viewers.
In Season 28, we’ll debut some fun
new segments. “Digging Deeper” will reveal fun gardening tips and facts
such as how to rescue your houseplants from extinction, and will bring
gardeners to unique locations such as an old-world root cellar. “Field
Trip” shares insight into the latest gardening trends and will take us
off the beaten path to unveil the world behind the plants. “The Backyard”
brings the best tips and ideas home again regardless of whether you have
an urban plot or suburban landscape, giving you the chance to keep the
grass greener on your side of the fence.
We’re also bringing back, by popular
demand, “Inspired Gardens,” “Edible Gardens,” “Weekend Projects,” “Best
Bets,” “Tools of the Trade,” and “Gardening Basics,” all of which provide
essential information everyone needs to get gardening.
From garden bed to table top .
. .
The delicious segment “Green Cuisine”
also returns this year! Pairing together nationally known chefs and the
freshest of straight-from-the-garden produce, The Victory Garden puts a
crisp new spin on exotic recipes and home-style favorites. Joining us this
season will be Deborah Madison, author of Local Flavors and Vegetarian
Cooking for Everyone, who’ll demonstrate new ways to think about beets
and peas. Hiroko Shimbo is back sharing her recipe for Asian greens; and
Lidia Bastianich, bountiful chef and host of PBS’s Lidia's Italian American
Kitchen, shares a delicious meal. Each recipe will be a culinary treat
that can be cooked up with fresh fruits and vegetables from any home garden.
Waiting to bloom . . .
Be sure to tune in for the return
of the Victory Garden Contest, as we search for America’s most beautiful
herb garden. Learn great new tips to adapt to your own garden design, get
answers to the questions that have you stumped at home when we pay “House
Calls,” and have a few laughs, all while watching your garden grow!
