VCarious
was created to transcend geographical boundaries so anyone can explore
other places and cultures in the same way as with first-hand travel. The
site is free and features travel journal and photo sharing services, advanced
social networking, and community-authored travel guides.
The VCarious travel journal system lets members record and share their travel experiences. Journals include indexed writing, reviews of establishments, interactive itinerary maps, and photo slideshows. Members can browse these journals and share their own with VCariouss growing international community. Members of VCarious can also browse other member profiles, connect directly, and exchange travel tips. Through VCarious travelers can meet people who have been elephant trekking in Thailand, clubbing in Tokyo, and everything in between. The VCarious community creates and maintains a set of rich travel guides for destinations all over the world. They are community-authored, which keeps them up-to-date, unbiased, and illustrated with member photos. Unlike other collaborative web projects, VCarious is personal and social; members can connect with the authors of a guide, see their travel experiences, and get first-hand advice. For casual users VCarious promises to be a useful practical resource for planning travel. The collaborative guides are organized within a dynamic template that structures them like traditional guides rather than encyclopedia entries or directories. They include hard facts, photo slideshows and maps so users can decide where to visit and start planning a trip. These guides are also free of commercial, "sponsored content."
