by Gisela Hausman

For any child or student learning the alphabet, here's a book with a difference.  obvious LETTERS was written with one thought - to create a system that teaches a child the shapes and sounds of the letters as fast as possible.  Hausman's goal in writing this book was to create a resource with visual associations that would help children to remember what the shape of a certain letter looked like and to get children on the road to reading and writing. She has succeeded in creating a visually attractive, colourful and easy to read resource.  I whole heartedly recommend this book.

In addition, Hausman supports busy educators and parents with a lesson plan which can be obtained by send a blank email to obvious_letters(a)getresponse.com or by visiting her website http://www.1second.com/edu_easy.html and clicking on the appropriate link.  She has also created a simple "Start-to-Read" program which again can be obtained by sending a blank email to obvious_letters(at)getresponse.com . Teachers can hand out that link to parents, giving them the opportunity to getting a short lesson plan and to using it for practice exercises.

More information on obvious LETTERS can be found at http://www.1second.com/edu_easy.html

Being in Control is a 38 page guide filled with colorful graphics, photos and illustrations giving techniques to help children to overcome learning problems, to be more relaxed so they can quietly do homework and to improve their concentration in the classroom.  This book offers many practical suggestions and easy to implement ideas for educators, parents and  children.

Being in Control was written by Jason Alster MSc, biofeedback therapist and researcher of natural techniques for managing ADHD, Dyslexia, and test anxiety.  This book is well worth checking out.

Teachers Without Borders works to close the education divide, particularly in developing countries, by providing resources to teachers and connecting them with each other.  TWB builds Community Teaching & Learning Centers (high-teach; high-touch; high-tech education sites).  There is also a five-course Certificate of Teaching Mastery (CTM) program  (professional development for educators), to be launched on-line this spring,  along with other programs geared to youth, job
skills, and health.  Membership is free.

Shedd Educational Adventures (SEA) contains a treasure trove of aquatic science resources for K-12 teachers and students. SEA brings the Philippines to life for your students with fact sheets and multimedia interactives based on the Wild Reef exhibit at Shedd Aquarium.

-Help Squish the Fish find lunch (a role-play story for grades K-2)
-Build a fish and try to survive on the reef (a simulation for grades 3-6)
-Solve a mystery in the Philippines (a puzzle/mystery for grades 6-9)
-Research seahorse conservation (an interactive reference for grades 9-12)

Plus K-12 lesson plans, fact sheets about plants, animals and culture, and more! Dive into the SEA today!
