Millions of kids and their families are affected daily by food allergies, even if they, themselves, don’t have one—and the numbers are growing.  Until there’s a cure, education is key.  That's why the hit PBS KIDS GO! series, ARTHUR, is on a mission to help kids deal with peanut allergies — how to face their own or how they can support a friend.

Based around a special new episode, "Binky Goes Nuts," in which Arthur's friend Binky learns to deal with his own peanut allergy, ARTHUR is offering resources for families and educators through the "Parents & Teachers" section of the ARTHUR Web site: pbskids.org/arthur/parentsteachers/

There, visitors can download Binky Goes Nuts: Understanding Peanut Allergies, the latest unit in the ARTHUR Hooray for Health! series, and approved by our partners at The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network.

This eight-page guide includes background information, suggested activities, and reproducible activity sheets in English and Spanish for children to share with their families and classmates. Also available are printable placemats, which provide a coloring sheet and activities for kids, designed to both entertain and to educate them about peanut allergies.  Coming soon, the area will also feature Questions & Answers about food allergies with Dr. Michael C. Young.

The materials will be highlighted on the “Parents & Teachers” homepage from now through the week of May 9th, national Food Allergy Awareness Week. There, visitors can also watch a sneak preview clip of the "Binky Goes Nuts" episode, which is encoring in honor of the special week on May 9th on PBS KIDS GO! (check local listings).  After that time, the guide, placemats, and Q&A will continue to be found in the "Parents & Teachers" section by going to “Lesson Plans,” and then clicking on “Hooray for Health,” or directly at http://pbskids.org/arthur/parentsteachers/lesson/health/
