ScanCafe.com Offers Scanning Service for Photos, Negatives, Slides .
Memories are priceless, yet most people have hundreds or thousands of prints, slides, and negatives sitting in boxes or assorted albums. ScanCafe.com will digitize your entire collection of prints, slides, and negatives, at a fraction of the cost and time it would take to do it yourself. ScanCafe.com is a leading provider of photo, negative, and slide scanning services for individuals, hobbyists and professional photographers. The site was launched in late 2006 by a group of Wharton Business School classmates who were looking to scan and archive their family photos and slides. While going through the process, they became extremely frustrated with the steep fees charged by photo and slide scanning players, but they also realized it took too much time to scan the photos on their own. Thus, their mission was to figure out a way to deliver the highest quality scans at the lowest prices. The ScanCafe founders realized they had the unique skill set to build an advanced logistics and shipping chain which would completely upend the industry, bringing costs way down for the average American. Scancafe can produce the highest quality 3000 dpi scans at roughly 1/4 the cost of the industry average. In addition to quality and price, ScanCafe came up with a unique, “you only pay for the scans you want” model. As CEO Sam Allen says, “Our members love the fact that they get to view their scanned images online and discard up to 50% of the images they do not want. It saves them a ton of time upfront when they are first collecting their images and are not 100% sure which images they will want to keep.” ScanCafe smartly removed the burden from the consumer who, with any other provider, will have to spend untold hours in a dank basement or dusty attic, trying to review photos to determine which ones are worth spending $.80 upon. Many customers just end up sending in a small subset of their analog archive. Also, with the ScanCafe solution, customers are no longer required to figure out how to review slides or, worse, negatives, to try to determine which ones are worth sending. “Send everything” says Mr. Allen, “send us everything you have – just tape up the box, slap our UPS label on it, and send it on in. We will scan everything and allow you to review the scanned images online where you choose and pay for only the ones you want to keep. Why would anyone want to make it more difficult for you?” ScanCafe.com uses first-class shippers like UPS for domestic shipping; while they use Fedex International and Panalpina (the Fedex of Europe) to manage shipping from their Silicon Valley offices to their scanning facilities in India. ScanCafe has processed over 800,000 images without damage or loss to a single image. Based on this success, they now offer a 100% guarantee on shipping once the packages have arrived at their offices. CEO Sam Allen says that the feedback from users has been outstanding. The turn around time is about 4-6 weeks, but the majority of the ScanCafe members say the results are worth the wait. As Sam says, “most members are shocked by the high quality and really appreciate the customer service we provide. It shouldn’t be time consuming or expensive to conduct an analog to digital conversion of your image archive – but until ScanCafe came along, unfortunately it was both. We are glad we could solve that problem.” You can find out more about
