The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) today unveiled a new search engine designed to satisfy the needs of UK specific searchers.  Dubbed BBCi Search, the new engine is available via the BBC main site at http://bbc.co.uk

According to BBC, their engine provides relevant results with prefernce given to UK based web sites, as well as providing results that do not have advertising.  The site lists these benefits

Editorially independent
BBCi search results best match your search terms, rather than advertisers terms.

Ease of use
Type in one or two words and click search. The engine also corrects spelling

Highest quality
BBC experts find great sites on a wide range of subjects.

UK-focused
The searchengne provides the best results from all ovcer the world, but if you happen to only want UK based results they offer that option as well. And BBCi Recommended Sites are selected with a UK audience in mind.

Family Friendly
As stated on the site, "BBCi Search aims to help you get the best from the Web - not the worst. We use 'family friendly' search technology and our editorial judgement to detect pornography and other offensive material and block it from our search returns."

The engine also provdes a method for users to send offensive site URLs for blocking.
