BBC Launches UK Centric Search Engine Today |
The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation)
today unveiled a new search engine designed to satisfy the needs of UK
specific searchers. Dubbed BBCi Search, the new engine is available
via the BBC main site at http://bbc.co.uk.
According to BBC, their engine provides
relevant results with prefernce given to UK based web sites, as well as
providing results that do not have advertising. The site lists these
benefits
Editorially independent
BBCi search results best match your
search terms, rather than advertisers terms.
Ease of use
Type in one or two words and click
search. The engine also corrects spelling
Highest quality
BBC experts find great sites on
a wide range of subjects.
UK-focused
The searchengne provides the best
results from all ovcer the world, but if you happen to only want UK based
results they offer that option as well. And BBCi Recommended Sites are
selected with a UK audience in mind.
Family Friendly
As stated on the site, "BBCi Search
aims to help you get the best from the Web - not the worst. We use 'family
friendly' search technology and our editorial judgement to detect pornography
and other offensive material and block it from our search returns."
The engine also provdes a method
for users to send offensive site URLs for blocking.
