Many words in Hebrew (including the
names of places) have both a common and a proper way of pronunciation.
For its maps, Gems in Israel
has chosen to use the proper pronunciations, rather than the common ones.
Anyone who has ever been to Israel
and tried to use a map or atlas knows that it can be quite frustrating.
Often, you will find at least 4-5 different spellings, for the same place
- the name of a place will be listed one way on a map, another way on a
road sign, and a third way by the place itself. Gems
in Israel has taken the approach of trying to adopt the actual spellings
used by the various places listed on its maps. However, some variations
may still exist.
To use Gems
in Israel's Talking Maps your computer must have a sound card and speakers.
Please make sure the volume is turned on, then, simply place your cursor
on the name you want to hear. When the cursor changes and appears as a
'hand' - click to hear the pronunciation.
