| Live Webcam Kaleidoscope Screensaver
Launched by British Artist |
| . |
| British artist Ian Kirk has created a remarkably
clever use for the basic webcam. Ian calls his invention Kaleidocam,
and it uses your existing webcam to create an ever-changing live kaleidoscope
pattern on your screen. This pattern can also be used as your screensaver. |

Kaleidocam
was created originally as an interactive media art work to be exhibited
internationally. Kaleidocam's debut coincided with "Kaleidoscope Explosion
2005", held recently at the Spanish
Village Art Center in San Diego.
Kaleidocam is addictively fun to interact
with. Users often find people gathering around their PC and making
faces or dancing just to see the remarkable live kaleidoscope pattern appear
instantly on the screensaver. Kaleidocam will work on most Windows computers
with a webcam. You can download a 10-day trial version free at http://kaleidocam.co.uk/download.html
Try out Kaleidocam on your own computer
right now...
If you're not sure if Kaleidocam will work
with your computer, you can check before downloading simply by visiting
the web version at http://kaleidocam.co.uk/webversion.html
The live image from your webcam should appear
on the left. If the web version works with your PC, the screen saver version
will work as well! There are no privacy worries, because no-one else
can see what your webcam can see. System requirements are Windows PC, webcam,
and Flash.
About Ian Kirk, Kaleidocam's creator...
Ian Kirk has an MA in Interactive Media from
Goldsmiths College, where he now teaches as a visiting lecturer. Ian's
recent "The Psychotic Machine" series were shown at the InWithOut Show
in London in 2004. Ian served on the board of the Institute of Contemporary
Arts for six years, and is a director of Fierce Earth Limited, who commission
the Fierce Earth performance arts festival in Birmingham. Ian has helped
produce television and theatrical events and is an advisor to the East
London arts festival, F-EST.
