The Web
site offers new information about the short-term and long-term consequences
of menopause, hysterectomies and surgical menopause, and treatment options
to help alleviate the often debilitating physical and emotional effects
that menopause can have. It is designed to help women embark on menopause
more positively and create an overall improvement in the way they feel.
"With all of the confusion out there
about menopause, we need to help women significantly improve their health
outcomes as they approach menopause and beyond," said Karen Giblin, Founder
of Prime Plus/Red Hot Mamas Menopause Management Education Programs. "Our
new Web site, www.redhotmamas.org,
will close the knowledge gap and provide the essential information women
need to obtain these goals."
The Visible Woman, an innovative
and interactive feature provided through an educational grant from Berlex
Laboratories, Inc., offers comprehensive information about the effects
of estrogen loss on a woman's body after menopause. Additional sections
include: the Clinical Trials Update, where visitors can see what trials
are being conducted and gather information about volunteering; the Health
Resources Links; a Suggested Reading list; and the Red Hot Mamas' The Menopause
Minute, a periodic newsletter for consumers written by widely recognized
health experts. Nationally renowned women's healthcare specialists have
teamed up with PRIME PLUS/Red Hot Mamas® as medical advisors and contributing
editors, including:
* Mary Jane
Minkin, MD, a practicing obstetrician/gynecologist, a health
columnist for Prevention Magazine, and the author of What Every Woman
Needs to Know About Menopause.
* Pamela
Peeke, MD, MPH, also a monthly columnist for Prevention
Magazine, and the author of the national best seller Fight Fat After
Forty.
* Bruce
Bekkar, MD, co-author of Your Guy's Guide to Gynecology.
* Stephanie
Marston, a licensed family therapist and author of the book,
If Not Now, When? Reclaiming Ourselves at Midlife.
Prime Plus/Red Hot Mamas is a leading
menopause education provider. Its mission is to broaden the base of women's
knowledge about menopause and empower them to become educated healthcare
consumers and active participants in menopause management. The Web site
is designed to provide comprehensive health-related information and tools
in support of that mission.
