Society has launched a new Web site, TeamACS,
which allows participants of fun runs, triathlons, bike races, marathons
and other events to support the fight against cancer. The Team ACS Web

Team
ACS will be introduced to participants through events like the WABC
Fight Against Prostate Cancer Run in Manhattan this weekend, the upcoming
Boilermaker 15K road race in Utica, NY, (July 11), and the Lake Placid
New York Ironman Competition (July 25) but is available to participants
of any event that meets the Team ACS guidelines -- including non-sporting
events like dance marathons and bowl-a-thons. Although Team ACS does not
waive participant registration fees or provide bib numbers, it is a resource
for participants of all kinds of events who want to enhance their experience
by adding a fundraising and awareness effort.
"Team ACS is a great example of how
we can creatively use technology to battle cancer. Many events already
encourage their participants to fundraise for the charity of their choice
and Team ACS allows them to do just that in a fun and easy way," said Lisa
Meyers Brown, vice president for marketing for the American Cancer
Society's Eastern Division.
She added, "The American Cancer Society
is keenly aware of how Internet-savvy the public is, and has responded
with a user-friendly resource that will make it convenient to get involved
through everyday activities."
The
Society's Web site, currently serves 1.5 million visitor sessions each
month. Cancer.org provides personalized
content, interactive health planning tools and online discussion groups,
treatment information, links to hospitals and events in local communities,
and a wealth of cancer information and news. Team ACS will complement the
organization's existing Web site by providing a generic e-fundraising tool,
making it easier for users to get involved in the fight against cancer.
