Women.com Takes Venerable Redbook Magazine Online Today

.

A joint-effort between Women.com Networks (www.women.com) and Hearst Magazines has produced a new Redbook magazine Web site (www.redbookmag.com) for "mothers and shakers" -- women balancing family, work, love relationships and time for themselves.

The new Redbook Web site combines the personal and marriage and family-oriented editorial content of the print magazine with the fun and interactive tools and features created by Women.com. Whether looking for a swimsuit to flatter her figure, determining what her partner's sleeping style says about their relationship, or the ability to customize a workout, the new Web site is designed to help wives and mothers get things done.

As part of the cross-branding effort, Redbook is the first women's magazine to place the Web site URL on every page of the publication.

"Redbook is written for a woman with a full plate and is resourceful in figuring out how to balance it all," said Lesley Jane Seymour, editor-in-chief, Redbook magazine. "Over the past year, our readers have told us-through letters, email and increased visits to our Web site-that the Internet is key to managing their busy lives. Redbook online helps women put information into action and share their experiences with other women and the magazine."

As part of the cross-branding effort, Redbook is the first women's magazine to place the Web site URL on every page of the publication. And in an interactive first, a popular feature from the Web site, "The Diary of V," has inspired a companion feature in the magazine, "The Diary of B," -- extending the cyber-personality's popularity in the print magazine. Additionally, discounted subscriptions to the print version of the magazine are available on the Redbook site. Through extensive cross promotion in both mediums, Redbook magazine and the Redbook Web site will create a continuous and complementary relationship for the reader.

"The initiative represents one of the most aggressive efforts by a magazine to integrate an offline and online brand," said Ellen Pack, founder, senior vice-president and general manager, Women.com Networks. "Unlike other magazine initiatives, this is not a rehash of the magazine online, but instead a complete expression of a powerful brand using an interactive voice. The essence of the Redbook theme of balancing career, family and personal time is now alive on the Web."

Redbook Online Features

Redbook online offers frequently updated information in four major areas of interest to Redbook "Mothers and Shakers":

  • Your Health - offers fitness, nutrition, diet and medical information for overall wellness. Visitors can create a custom workout plan based on how much, or little time they have.
  • Your Marriage - features an interactive tool for determining the different stages of marriage; honest answers to sex and relationship questions from "The Marriage Doctor," Dr. Jane Greer and weekly installments from Redbook's infamous cyber-soap heroine in "The Diary of V." Visitors can also read about the best positions for love-making, or share feedback about dealing with guilt.
  • Your Family - includes suggestions for moms trying to manage their home life, and monthly profiles of inspiring role models -- submitted by readers -- in the "Mothers & Shakers" column. Visitors can search for tips on traveling with their kids, or share "mommy sins" in a community forum.
  • Time for You - celebrates the individual woman, with tips on managing stress and making time for herself. Readers can also check-out this week's most embarrassing question and submit one of their own.
