New Site Focuses On
Young Adults Reaction to 9/11 Attacks
URLwire
911bookforteens.com
has been designed to support 911: The Book of Help, an anthology of essays
aimed at young adults. In this groundbreaking collection, leading children’s
and young adult writers come together to contribute their insights and
experiences on the effects of the attacks. All of the authors donated their
work, and Carus Publishing will contribute 50% of the net proceeds from
911: The Book of Help to the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund.

Some of the site's features include:
A moving essay by noted writer Susan
Cooper in which she uses her memories of growing up in England during WW
II to help today's youth find hope and strength in the aftermath of the
September 11 attacks. The piece closes with a touching and inspiring poem.
Publisher Marc Aronson's essay about
the origin of the book and its importance.
Two guides for use with 911: The
Book of Help are nearing completion, and will be posted to the site shortly.
One is designed for educators while the other is intended for counselors
and mental health professionals. Both will assist caregivers of children
and teens in using 911: The Book of Help to share feelings about the tragedies
and begin healing.
A forum for educators and caregivers
to share resources and strategies for helping young adults deal with the
aftermath of the attacks and ongoing War on Terrorism is under construction.
www.911bookforteens.com
also includes links to other sites that young adults can visit to share
their views or find recommended resources, a full list of contributors
to 911: The Book of Help, biographical information on the editors and artist,
relevant reviews, contact information, and ordering
instructions. Anyone who purchases
the book online will receive the hardcover edition at the discounted price
of $10.95. Here is a gift from the children's book world to young readers
struggling to make sense of our difficult times.
