CheatHouse.com,
a student community centered around homework, is today released in it's
second version. The idea that students can simply find, download and hand
in their homework is a recipe that is attracting over 6,000 visitors a
day.
The new version is already offering users the possibility to both rate and comment any of the existing 8,000 essays. Over 1,000 such comments have already been written, each improving the value of the essay. Teachers and the press have often noted the poor quality of online essays, but the quality can only improve when user correct mistakes and add sources in the comments. CheatHouse.com will still focus on it's core product: essays. In fact, the new version encourages essay submissions through a clever point system. A user can choose to send 3 essays to gain full access or pay a fee of $14.95 for a full years access to the entire database. The more the user contributes, the more access he will get. Over 600 essays are currently submitted monthly - an unprecedented rate that makes it harder than ever for teachers to keep up. More than 10,000 essays are being viewed every day. A key objective with the new version of CheatHouse.com was to make it available in languages other than English. The first foreign-language version of CheatHouse.com will be in Danish, available by the end of October. Over a dozen other languages are scheduled for next year. The site is as controversial as ever, as witnessed by recent features in major magazines and newspapers. Creator Jens Schriver, 24 says: "If users want to use CheatHouse.com for research and inspiration they can. If they want to plagiarise, that's their decision. I am not here to parent my users."
