Commenting on the relaunch, founder and publisher Clyde Smith said "netweed began as an idea for a directory of alternative culture - radical politics, experimental art, stuff like that. For a while, I described it as 'resources for a different world'. Now the energy is shifting to the combination of a web directory with news plus hosted projects. I'm sure the balance will continue to shift while maintaining the current esoteric blend".

While hosted projects were the initial focus at netweed, such as Smith's hip hop projects as well as Clay Richard's 'Postmodern Anarchist' and John Dancy-Jones' 'The Paper Plant', the site is gradually building the directory by categories, such as Anarchy links.  All sites in the netweed directory are handpicked and annotated, and the majority of categories include headline newsfeeds from relevant news outlet and blogs.

Smith continued, "The goal is to grow netweed organically with some projects eventually moving to their own domain and others staying rooted at netweed.com.  For example, Hip Hop Logic is a hip hop blog I've been writing since 2002.  Starting October 5th I'll conduct a review marathon called Listening Party of One, and review over 25 new album releases by up and coming hip hop artists".
