Philips Lifeline Posts CAREGIVINGBLOG.COM to Help Families

Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) has announced the launch of CAREGIVINGBLOG.COM, an online resource to aid in the eldercare issues currently facing one in four American families. With 80 percent of all eldercare provided by family and friends, this online resource will provide useful information and a sense of community for those facing similar circumstances.

A database of related caregiving issues, postings by users and articles on medical, financial and lifestyle questions are among the topics which can currently be found on CAREGIVINGBLOG.COM.

According to U.S. Census reports, the senior population is growing at a record-setting pace, with more than 70 million people projected to turn 65+ over the next 25 years. This trend already puts a tremendous strain on both the families contending with eldercare issues and their employers. There is an estimated $34 billion dollar cost to U.S. businesses in lost productivity annually, as employees struggle to contend with caregiving or assisted living situations.

“There is an undeniable and ever-increasing need to provide services, support and guidance to those who have found themselves in the challenging position of caring for a loved one, whether personally or professionally,” noted Marc Braunstein, Director of Marketing of Philips Lifeline.  “The uncertainty that goes with being thrust into the role of caregiver can be overwhelming, and we are delighted to provide a forum via CAREGIVINGBLOG.COM to allow people with so much in common to share ideas and communicate. Readers and contributors can find support through this site, which covers some of the most pressing issues facing caregivers today, as well as simpler tasks, like raising difficult subjects with an aging parent,” Braunstein said.

Examples of recent subject posts on CAREGIVINGBLOG.COM include:

-10 tips for providing care at home
-Dementia and those little white lies
- Is it time to take the car keys away?
-Active adult communities let generations live together
-The costs of aging
-The Elder bookshelf
-Medication safety IQ

Additionally, extensive archives and links to related resources can be found on the site, illustrating that caregivers are not alone as they deal with these vital issues.

Lifeline began its emergency response services in 1974, providing individuals, families and caregiving professionals with a direct link to medical assistance. Lifeline was acquired by Royal Philips Electronics in 2006, further expanding its eldercare and caregiving services.
