So now National Geographic and WGBH's award-winning free Web site for kids The Fin, Fur and Feather Bureau of Investigation are stepping in. They have joined forces to take kids, ages 8-13, on missions to Japan, India and Australia. The FFFBI was created in the 1950s during the Tepid War, which was very much like the Cold War, only 12 degrees warmer. Its animal agents fight for Truth, Justice and Stuff Like That. With budget cuts hitting the Bureau, they have been increasingly reliant on children and the World Wide Web to solve crimes. In typical FFFBI style, ill-equipped animal agents are now being dispatched to countries about which they know squat. In some cases, less than squat. With a meager travel budget, and a disorganized dossier of secret documents, they'll try to thwart Skip Intro's Cyber-Toothed Tigers, CRUST and the Sandwich Faced Daddy's Boys. Maybe even those stoats, ferrets, and mink from the so-called "Axis of Weasels." Deputy FFFBI Director Agent Napoleon, a king penguin, was asked to comment on the new international missions and on the Bureau's partnership with two educational media giants, National Geographic and WGBH Boston. But he appeared to be under his desk, sleeping off a large breakfast of herring doughnuts and we decided not to wake him. About National Geographic

WGBH's award-winning Web site, The Fin, Fur and Feather Bureau of Investigation, uses humor and storytelling to help kids ages 8-13 learn about places and cultures around the world. This is an important first step toward building their global literacy.
