The
FBI Bulger Fugitive Task Force has teamed with Terra Lycos to use these
online tools as a new component in its on-going effort to apprehend
James "Whitey" Bulger. Bulger's likeness and messages alerting users to
the $1 million reward offered by the FBI will be exposed to millions of
Internet users around the world.
Since being placed on the FBI' s Ten Most Wanted List in August 1999, the Task Force has acted on hundreds of tips regarding the whereabouts of Bulger. With this initiative, the Task Force expands the opportunities for receiving more tips leading to Bulger's long-awaited capture. The Bulger Fugitive Task force is comprised of representatives and investigators from the FBI, Massachusetts State Police, DEA, Boston Police Department, the Massachusetts Department of Correction and the U.S. Attorney's Office. Bulger has been a fugitive since 1995. Users who click on the new Wanted Posters will be directed to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted web site where they can learn how to leave tips for the FBI. Bulger, a major organized crime figure in the Boston area, is wanted on Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO), Extortion, and Money Laundering charges. The $1 million reward is being offered by the FBI for information leading to the arrest of Bulger. Anyone with information concerning Bulger should contact the nearest FBI office.
