The Salvia divinorum Research and Information Center, located at http://www.sagewisdom.org, provides the most comprehensive resource for information about Salvia divinorum available on the web.  Created and maintained by Daniel Siebert, The site is available in over 50 languages, and includes an extensive FAQ, links to scientific research and other articles, an image gallery, list of related organizations, and a curated web links guide.

Salvia divinorum is used as a sacred medicine by indigenous shamanic healers living in the mountainous Sierra Madre Oriental in the northeastern corner of the Mexican State of Oaxaca. Used for its psychoactive effects and given the right dose, individual, set and setting, it produces a unique state of  'divine inebriation' which has been traditionally used by Mazatec healers.

Salvia divinorum is both similar to, and different from, other drugs that affect the brain and behavior. Salvia divinorum is difficult to categorize pharmacologically. It does not fit well into any existing pharmacological class. Louis Lewin (wikipedia) the father of psychopharmacology called vision inducing drugs 'phantastica'.

The site also credits William White, whose early web document All About Salvia divinorum provided inspiration for the more up-to-date and comprehensive FAQ. Several members of the original, now defunct, "Salvia" email discussion forum assisted in the development of the preliminary version by providing valuable editorial advice and commentary. Some of them contributed valuable material which has been included in the FAQ. These members are listed on the site.

The site is NOT intended to either  encourage or discourage use of this plant or any pharmacologically active compound (e.g. salvinorin A) that it contains. It is intended to make readers more knowledgeable about this interesting plant, its effects, and how it may best be used safely and responsibly by those who choose to do so.

How to announce content

News bots and headline linking services are welcome to crawl/scrape this site announcement.

As needed, stock quote links in URLwire stories are provided courtesy of Google Finance ®

URLwire has helped quality web content gain attention, links, and publicity for over 15 years. URLwire was established in 1994 as a private and discreet service to announce meritiorious Web content to the exact trusted influencers who care about it. URLwire is free to all subscribers. URLwire is not a bulk press release distribution service, and will never be automated.  It is sent by Eric Ward, one at a time, to people who look forward to it. URLwire has thousands of private email subscribers, and I also publish URLwire in several other formats including RSS and Twitter. Why am I still doing this after all these years?  The below quote sums it up.
"Eric knows quality web content, and he knows how to reach out and publicize
it politely, personally, privately. When we see an email from Eric, we read
it and regularly link to the sites he sends us." --Library of Congress
