Law.com Unveiled To Public Today As Net's Single Largest Legal Info Portal

Site offers staff to assist in helping users to find the information they need on the Internet, should they have difficulty finding it at the law.com site

The launch I'm announcing today is for a site that has been making headlines in the online press since last August, when it was first announced it would be built and unveiled early in 99. The site, called law.com (http://www.law.com), was unveiled to the public this week as the Webs single largest and most comprehensive portal for legal information on the Internet.  As a portal, the site will take visitors right where they need to go to find the legal answers they need.  What I find highly useful, if not remarkable, is that they have a staff to assist in helping users to find the information they need on the Internet, should they have difficulty finding it at the law.com site.

http://www.law.comAmong the launch content partners at law.com are CourtTV, LOISLAW, Harcourt-Brace, Corporate Legal Times, And LegalSpan.

"The law influences virtually every aspect of our lives, but legal information is scattered across the web. It requires a lot of time to find what you're looking for using traditional search engines," said R. Bruce Whiting, CEO and chairman of Law.com. "Our goal is to make our site easy to remember and easy to use so that anyone, including business people, the public, lawyers and students, can find what they need at law.com."

In addition to law.com's vast links and interactive guides for consumers, business and lawyers, never before has a legal web site attempted to provide personalized help on this scale -- offering visitors the opportunity to submit requests for help and receive information from a live person. law.com was founded when two practicing attorneys, Charles E. Davis and Scott Gillette, partnered with Kaibab Industries, Inc. Over the past several months law.com has announced several strategic alliances and joint ventures to provide users a one stop site for legal information. Features of the site include:

  • Free help via e-mail in finding legal information anywhere on the web and beyond powered by unique software that speeds response time
  • Free "@law" e-mail
  • Free legal research in conjunction with LOISLAW
  • Free find a lawyer services provided by Martindale-Hubbell (lawyers.com)
  • Legal News Headlines provided by COURT TV
  • Self Help articles and products from Nolo Press
  • Online Continuing Legal Education (CLE) provided by LegalSpan
  • Advice for corporate lawyers from Corporate Legal Times
  • Student material and products from Gilbert Law summaries  and Harcourt Brace
  • The law.com golf store presented by Chipshot Golf.
  • In addition, law.com features exclusive content, such as this week's inside look at the Impeachment process authored by Henry Ruth who was formally deputy Special Prosecutor and then Special Prosecutor of the Watergate Special Prosecution Force.

"We've had a lot of help from a lot of great companies that provide legal resources and a lot of help from early visitors," said Whiting.  law.com conducted a two-month live beta test of the site during which it conducted a contest for the best feedback from visitors.  law.com this week awarded  $500.00 for the winning suggestions.  "This site will break down the barriers to make access to the law easier for everyone, and we always want our visitors to let us know how to improve," he said. During its beta testing, the site received tens of thousands of visitors and hundreds of suggestions.
