VISA "RankIt" Site Seeks College Votes For Best Alternative Band

RankIt, VISA's Web-based forum for and about America's college students, is now asking students to vote for their favorite unsigned alternative rock band -- all on-line. Beginning March 18 and in collaboration with "Sam Goody's UnVailed 1997: The Ultimate Band and Board Event," RankIt, at [ http://www.rankit.com ], will invite students to preview and vote on music by four regional finalist bands. The band with the most on-line votes will be presented with a students' choice award at UnVailed '97 -- the premiere alternative music and snowboarding competition to be held in Vail, Colorado on March 27-29.

"Sam Goody's UnVailed '97," sponsored by Sam Goody and Visa U.S.A., is a three-day event that brings together the best unsigned bands from across the country with the hottest professional snowboarders. The best athletes let loose in a unique peer-judged event during the day while four regional finalist bands compete at night with six major alternative bands as headliners, including Morphine, Bloodhound Gang, Dinosaur Jr., L7, Rusted Root and Leah Andreone. Starting March 18, students can sample the music of the UnVailed regional finalists on RankIt.

RankIt survey topics range from the serious, such as athlete drug-testing, to the not-so-serious, like "Which city should have been disintegrated first in Independence Day?" and "Which book is more hated on campus: O.J.'s or Rush Limbaugh's?"
