FreeTranslation.com is a free web site designed to translate text and foreign language web pages
FreeTranslation.com is a straightforward, easy-to-use site for rapid translations where users can obtain the meaning or "gist" of foreign language text and web pages. Users log onto www.FreeTranslation.com and type or paste text directly into a translation box, select a language from the pull-down menu to translate the text to, and then simply click the "translate" button. The translation is completed within seconds. Similarly, web pages are translated by typing or pasting the URL of the web page to be translated into the web page translation box, selecting the language for translation and clicking the "translate" button. The translated web page text is displayed while retaining the site’s original formatting and graphics.

"FreeTranslation.com is unique in that it offers every Internet user an pportunity to use our $20 million language translation technology for free," said Michael Quinlan, founder and CEO of Transparent Language, Inc. "It opens up a whole new world of communication for Internet users seeking to understand the "gist" of foreign language web pages, e-mail and plain text."

A number of other sites, wishing to provide their visitors with multilingual translation capability, have begun linking with FreeTranslation.com, such as www.rba.co.uk/sources/misc.html, a business reference page; www.ethbib.ethz.ch/virtuell/010/sg010lw_wort_d.html, a virtual reference library page from Switzerland; www.francexport.com, an export show room of French leading companies and http://www.servce.com/shea/wortbuch.htm, a German resource page.

FreeTranslation.com uses the advanced TranscendRT natural language translation engine, which currently translates six languages including Spanish, French, German, English, Italian and Portuguese. Instead of using the simple word-replacement technologies common to the majority of translation tools, TranscendRT provides a superior analysis of the text, translating text more accurately and completely than other systems.

About Machine Translation

Machine translation systems use complex technologies that interpret the structure of sentences in the source language and generate translations based on the rules of the target language. The process involves breaking down complex and varying sentence structures, identifying parts of speech, resolving ambiguities, and synthesizing the information into the components and structure of the new language.

Machine translation is ideal when rapid, low-cost, draft-quality language translations are required. Users benefit most from machine translation when they want the meaning, or "gist" of the text to gain basic understanding. Human translators provide grammatically perfect translation, but are expensive and oftentimes not an option.
