Information Builders today unveils release 2.0 of its “Grand Slam” baseball statistics web site.

Grand Slam is located at http://baseball.IBI.com/ and allows visitors to analyze baseball statistics that are now updated daily. The latest version of the popular Web site includes more accurate searching capabilities and the ability for users to create their own statistical criteria and apply it across all teams to determine player or team rankings.

.
Built with information builders’ WebFOCUS, Grand Slam allows fans to slice and dice the latest Major League player and team statistics.   “For fantasy baseball fans, Grand Slam is the best tool for seeking out the perfect player at each position and building the ultimate dream team - and it’s free”, said Kevin Quinn, Information Builders’ director of Internet sales

New Grand Slam features are as follows

- Power Searching: Allows users to get more accurate answers to their statistical queries, “For example, a Grand Slam user can easily search for players who fit a very specific set of criteria such as; third basemen with more than 20 stolen bases, less than 30 strikeouts, greater than 15 home runs, and who are batting more than .300.  Any players fitting these criteria will be displayed

- Performance Splits: Another new feature of special interest to fantasy baseball league fans is the ability to drill-down on any batter or pitcher to determine “splits”.  For example, splits for batters show their performance based on six different conditions; vs. right handed pitchers, vs. left-handed pitchers, day games or night games, grass or artificial turf.  The same type of “split” information is available for pitchers, such as their performance against right-handed batters or left-handed batters.

- Custom Stat Sorting: A unique new feature, not offered anywhere else, is the ability for users to create and sort by their own statistical criteria.  In the batting and pitching statistics analysis modules, they can create their own ratio between any two statistics. For example, a Grand Slam user may want to know which player has the most home runs per time at bat, or the most runs scored compared to strikeouts, or the pitcher that gives up the most home runs per nine innings.

- Position-by-Position Team Analysis: A new Grand Slam module lets fans compare any two rival teams position-by-position based on user-selected batting statistics.  For example; Yankee fans might not be happy to know that the Mets have more home runs as a team than the Yankees. And, The Mets out “homer” the Yanks at several positions.

According to Mr. Quinn, “Even sports writers and broadcasters, who normally have their hands on the latest statistics, would be excited about the capabilities of Grand Slam. What’s more, sports fans can get the latest baseball stats and standings before calling to their favorite sports radio station and stump the host!

Originally launched this past February, Grand Slam is a free Web service available at http://baseball.ibi.com. According to The Seattle Times, “Using Grand Slam, you can quickly deliver a player’s or a team’s statistics.” CIO Magazine stated “Information Builders has created the ultimate rotisserie Web site.” CTV, a national Canadian Television Network named Grand Slam as one of its “Top Sites of the Week”.

Grand Slam was built using Information Builders’ WebFOCUS enterprise business intelligence system. WebFOCUS is the industry leader in Web reporting software. Typically, governments, universities and large companies use WebFOCUS to report on sales, finances, inventory, etc.  The popularity of the Web has allowed Information Builders’ software to be used by even more people in “self-service” applications ? where they can help themselves to database information.

Operators of online sports sites who are interested in incorporating Grand Slam statistics and technology into their sites should contact Information Builders through the comments section on the Grand Slam site, or by calling Kevin Quinn at (212) 736-4433 ext. 4575.  Information Builders supplies the market-leading middleware technology that enables today’s Web-based systems to be integrated with enterprise-wide data and applications.  The company extends that technology with cutting-edge Web tools for building decision support, reporting and transaction processing applications.  Headquartered in New York City, Information Builders employs more than 1,950 professionals worldwide and earned revenues exceeding $307 million in 1998.  To learn more about Information Builders’ products and services, point your Web browser to http://www.ibi.com.
