Celebrities,
gossip, advice, fashion, movies, music...and some serious issues. That's
the mix featured in DishThis, a new Web site produced by Tribune Interactive
for the viewers of Tribune Broadcasting's WB and Fox affiliated television
stations.
DishThis (www.dishthis.com), currently linked to 17 WB and Fox station sites across the U.S., is aimed at getting its smart and Web-savvy audience talking to the world and to each other. News tidbits, polls, graffiti boards, advice columns, Web links and other DishThis features work together to get the site's audience to sound off about issues from the silly to the serious. A recent poll asked: "Who would win in a catfight -- Jennifer Lopez or Jennifer Love Hewitt?" while a graffiti board attached to the "Ask Jenica" advice column dealt with the complexities of when to keep secrets among friends. Other features invite members to submit their own Web sites for a "face-off" with other sites, and enable viewers to submit their own movie and music reviews. An assortment of stylish and fun DishThis e-cards allow visitors to send online greetings to friends to profess their love, vent their frustrations or send good wishes. "We know how popular The WB and Fox programs are with viewers, especially the kind of young viewers who appreciate the power of the Web," said Nancy Neff, DishThis senior producer. "We're creating a place where they can get a daily connection to the issues and the people who interest them, and a place where they can communicate with each other." DishThis launched in July with a small preview site accessible from several of Tribune Broadcasting's television station Web sites. During its first weekend, the preview site prompted messages from hundreds of viewers, and more than 1,200 visitors have asked to receive e-mails about the site's progress. With new features to be added throughout this summer and fall, the site will continue to evolve and grow based on member suggestions. Tribune Interactive brings together the interactive functions of Tribune Company's four newspapers and 17 television stations, as well as other Internet products and services, including BlackVoices.com, Go2Orlando.com and Digital City sites for Chicago, Hampton Roads, Orlando and South Florida. The group also is responsible for developing new Internet products and services. Tribune Interactive draws 70 million page views per month and $25 million to $30 million in annual revenues. Tribune (NYSE:TRB) is a leading media company with operations in television and radio broadcasting, publishing, education and interactive ventures. It is an industry leader in venture partnerships with new-media companies. In 1999, for the second straight year, Tribune ranked No. 1 among its industry peers in Fortune magazine's list of America's most-admired companies.
