"Sourcebank.com
provides the power and reach of a traditional search engine, but uses a
system tailored towards the resource needs of developers," said Sameer
Samat, Project Manager of Sourcebank.com and partner at Revolution9.
"Mainstream search engines do not help software professionals quickly locate
reusable source code or other information that would help them accomplish
their development tasks quickly. Sourcebank.com fills this information
need." The site's URL is http://www.sourcebank.com
.
Sourcebank.com's backend technology crawls through the Internet searching for Assembler, C, C++, Java, Matlab, Perl, and Visual Basic source code. In addition to source code, Sourcebank.com also indexes online articles from trade magazines and research papers. By covering a variety of resources the new website provides software developers with a broad range of references to assist them with their work. Using proprietary technology, Sourcebank can automatically generate a description from resources. Unlike other websites for programmers, Sourcebank.com's high level of automation allows for rapid expansion and more coverage of the Web. "The key is to preserve resource properties," said Josh Dammeier, a developer at Revolution9. "For example, our system has the intelligence to handle the describing of Java and C source code differently. This knowledge allows our backend to create better descriptions for each resource by using properties specific to that resource." Sourcebank.com's search services are available at no charge to the user. Project manager Samat stresses "Our targeted audience provides us with high potential revenue growth from online advertising and commission based sales. Companies want to advertise on a site that caters to computer professionals. This allows us to offer a high quality service to the development community without subscriptions or usage fees."
