| New Website Lets Parents Arrange Babysitting Dates Online | ||
| Finding
a babysitter for the Eve of the Millennium just may be an impossible chore.
However, for any other night of the year the job has been made easier thanks
to a new online babysitter reservation service at SitterTime.com.

SitterTime.com
is a high tech connection to help parents and their babysitters arrange
dates. Parents place their babysitter list online and are assigned a calendar
for access by their regular sitters. Parents let sitters know the nights
they need coverage then access their SitterTime calendar to see who is
free and who is not on any particular date. They then book the sitter online.
Participating babysitters must also be registered with SitterTime to receive bookings from their existing client base. Through SitterTime the sitter can let parents know the dates they are free or busy, keep a record of clients and the pay rate, even e-mail cancellations or make automatic substitutions for another sitter in the event of an emergency. "The idea for this service came from my personal experience and the frustration of playing phone tag with often already booked babysitters -- all for one Saturday night date with my wife," says SitterTime founder Bill Alexander. "SitterTime.com will make finding a sitter relatively painless, and it's also a classic example of the power of the Web to network people." How does a SitterTime session usually run? Let's imagine that on Wednesday
your spouse mentions she would like to go to a movie on Saturday night.
You log on to SitterTime and check your calendar. If the evening has been
marked green that means one of your regular sitters is available. Click
the calendar and it shows you that Jane Smith is available and at what
time. You click the 'reserve' button on Jane's profile and she will receive
an e-mail telling her who has reserved her and for what time. Follow up
phone calls
SitterTime's calendar is Y2K ready even if you can't find a sitter willing to work December 31. SitterTime is not a babysitter referral service. Registered users must already know the parents or sitters that they communicate with on SitterTime. Refer to the FAQ page at SitterTime for information on sites which do babysitter referrals. As part of their marketing efforts to encourage parents to try SitterTime, the company is offering, for a limited number of parents only, free lifetime memberships in its babysitter reservation system. After the first one million parents sign up, the fee for using SitterTime will be $9.50 per year. Registration for babysitters is always free. SitterTime.com LLC is a privately held corporation with offices in Houston, TX.

This is a private Web-based version of Eric Ward's URLwire. URLwire is a low frequency E-mail news alert service which covers significant Web launches, events, and online happenings, and is sent only to writers, reporters, Web guide editors, and site reviewers who earn a living covering the high end of the Web. It is matched personally by me to your subject interests, not automated, and importantly, not annoying. Send your exact subject interests to: Eric@urlwire.com (Voice 423.637.2438). Online news headline linking services are welcome to link to this story. |
