AccentHealth’s http://www.accenthealth.com Web site provides consumer-oriented information and interactive tools designed to help Internet users more effectively manage their health needs

As always,  http://www.accenthealth.com  will offer timely and relevant coverage of health news and issues as well as specialized and targeted information about 75 common health conditions and 20 often-prescribed tests and procedures, all reachable from the site’s home page.

“These new centers coupled with the redesign of our entire Web site reinforces our commitment to work with our users and their healthcare professionals in forging a premier health partnership,” said Wrenn.  “Using information they can find on our Web site and on our Waiting Room Television Network in medical offices, consumers can become more fully informed participants in their own health and healing.  We know that our Web users and TV viewers are smart and capable consumers, and making good decisions about their health is a matter of their getting balanced information and having access to a community of support.”

Some of the features on the new  http://www.accenthealth.com  include these five Wellness Centers:

- Healthy Lifestyles Center:  This center offers a wide range of health prevention articles designed to help people stay healthy and improve their quality of life.  Features range from fitness tips and healthy travel suggestions to preventing computer-related injuries and reducing stress. Interactive tools include a calorie calculator and a quiz to measure sleep deprivation.

- Men’s Health Center:  The Men’s Health Center concentrates on how men can stay healthy as well as providing information relating to specific conditions such as prostate cancer, coronary artery disease, lung cancer and high blood pressure.  An interactive tool gives men guidelines and suggestions for medical screening tests.

- Women’s Health Center:  Designed for women aged 25-55, this center covers diverse topics including breast health, endometriosis, premenstrual syndrome, menopause, pregnancy, breast-feeding, osteoporosis, ovarian cancer and others.  An interactive tool also helps women determine age-appropriate medical screening tests and what they can expect at each exam.  Both the Men’s and Women’s Centers will often feature a “He Says, She Says” feature, such as the recent DoubleTake on Breastfeeding.

-Nutrition Center:  This center covers a range of healthy eating options, from recipes to healthy fast food choices, plus an interactive fruits and vegetables quiz.  Additional nutrition resources include guidelines for eating well, vitamin and mineral suggestions, a menu planning guide, a pregnancy diet and a ‘what-to-eat-while-breastfeeding’ diet.

-Children’s Health Center:  This center provides parents with a range of information targeted to healthy child rearing such as safety, illness prevention and treatment, growth and development, as well as guidelines in areas such as toilet training. Extensive resources on common childhood problems and concerns are also featured.

Each of the centers houses an active, moderated Message Board where users can share information and ask questions of experts.  The centers also feature “Cool Tools,” personalized, self-assessment aids.  Current Cool Tools include a way to calculate how many calories your favorite activities burn, seven stretches to promote fitness at your desk, a quiz about how much you know about men’s health and a way to locate the hidden allergens in your home.

In addition to the new five centers, “Cool Tools” and expanded Message Board, new original stories on the site include:  Hotel-Room Exercises, Focus on Baby Safety, Maintaining Good Relationships with your Kids While Traveling, Packing Healthy School Lunches, and a moderated message board event on What You Need to Know About Cholesterol.
