ComicsOne will appeal to potential comic book readers with a blend of domestic and imported properties that will appeal to the wide interests of a mainstream audience. ComicsOne believes the Japanese model of comics will be embraced in the US, as enthusiastically as the Pokemon phenomenon
ComicsOne has recognized the recent popularity of the Stephen King e-books and they believe comics will succeed in the same format. During the past 25 years Japan has created a tremendous variety of comic series that ComicsOne will explore. To date, no one US publisher has licensed so many manga (comic) titles at once. By the end of the year users will have over 120 titles to choose from. ComicsOne will have a major impact on the online bookselling industry, which is expected to grow to 4.9 Billion by 2003 by creating new standards in content, distribution, and readership.

ComicsOne will also feature other comic-related entertainment like daily news comics, comic reviews and interviews with leading comic authors. The site will also have a section where you can purchase the latest comic-related merchandise. ComicsOne is positioning itself to be the place users will go for all their comic needs. Because ComicsOne realizes the printed word will continue to be prevalent in early 2001, the most popular downloaded comics will be offered in hard copy form. They also plan on licensing the characters from these books to corporations to use in their marketing and advertising campaigns.

Historically, comic books have not obtained its fair share of recognition as a mainstream medium, especially in the North American market. The current American model for the comics industry is hopelessly limited in scope and outreach, which is reflected in their delivery methods, content and audience. Using a broader and more aggressive model similar to the 6 billion dollar Japanese manga industry, ComicsOne will appeal to potential comic book readers with a blend of domestic and imported properties that will appeal to the wide interests of a mainstream audience. ComicsOne believes
the Japanese model of comics will be embraced in the US, as enthusiastically as the Pokemon phenomenon. The Japanese model for the manga industry produces serialized novels of up to 400 pages that address the different underserved audiences for comics with content specifically aimed for each group. Content can range from humor, sports and action adventure to romance, cooking and everyday life. ComicsOne believes that comic books, by riding the Internet wave, will gain acceptance by a new audience.

ComicsOne books, both electronic and print, will cost a fraction of the price of traditional comic publishers.  In the current North American market place, a 200 page printed comic with Japanese content origin is sold for approximately $15.95.  ComicsOne plans to charge $6.00 for a 200 page printed novel and under $3 for the downloaded version.

ComicsOne Corporation (http://www.comicsone.com), is a new venture dedicated to bringing Japanese and US comic books and comics-related properties to a wider American audience through innovative means of content and delivery. ComicsOne will publish comics that can attract a broad range of readers and interests, as well as satisfy longtime fans of the medium. ComicsOne has received its next round of venture capital financing led by InveStar Capital. InveStar, which specializes in emerging technology companies, manages more than $180 million in venture funds, and has stakes in more than 70 portfolio companies. ComicsOne was founded in December 1999 and is based in Fremont, CA.
