Discovery Channel School Site Launches Online Search For Smart Pets
 
Mice that run mazes, cockatoos that count, dogs that do long division? Discoveryschool.com is calling all smart pets in its search for a site mascot.

In an effort to encourage students? creativity, improve writing skills, and to promote its re-designed Web site; Discovery Channel's education Internet service announced today the launch of a nationwide search for the smartest pet to reign as mascot of Discoveryschool.com .

Students and teachers are invited to submit photos of animals, either personal or class pets, performing acts of 'genius.' 

Students and teachers are invited to submit photos of animals, either personal or class pets, performing acts of 'genius.'  Entrants will also submit essays describing their pet's special talent.  Thirty finalists selected by teachers in three categories will win digital cameras, and the winning pet will be named mascot of Discoveryschool.com.  The winner will be chosen by popluar vote and announced in early December.  Discovery Channel School kicked-off a new school year this fall with a wealth of new teaching resources for teachers, and fun learning adventures for kids.  This semester, discoveryschool.com will be searching for wolly mammoths in Siberia, exploring the lates in cool science projects, and keeping an eye on the expanding universe.  To accompany a new semester of educational television programs, Discovery has added over 25 new lesson plans to its growing curriculum library.  Discoveryschool.com also offers lively interactive discussions on its teacher bulletin boards, and spotlights an outstanding school Web site each week.
